Homecoming

My solo show, Homecoming, opens next week in the Burgh Halls Gallery in the historic centre of my hometown, Linlithgow.

This exhibition is a huge occasion for me. Homecoming is my largest show in twenty years as a full-time, professional artist. In fact, while writing this blog post I’ve realised that the opening night of Homecoming falls exactly one month short of the twenty year anniversary of my Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show - BA Hons Drawing & Painting Degree Show was 17 – 27 June 2006! How can it be twenty years!

They’ve been a great twenty years. Really, really great. And they’ve had extremely hard bits. Homecoming looks at this. It celebrates my creative and personal renewal and expansion after a major mental health crisis. Homecoming shows me at my full excited, exciting potential.

Homecoming is my most ambitious exhibition ever, featuring new painting collections reflecting on creativity, nature, mental health recovery, resilience, connection, excitement, joy.

Expect to see:

whales
badgers
birds
incredible seabird island – the Isle of May
railway locations – Linlithgow, Leven, Montrose
intricate wood engravings
miniature 5x8cm watercolours
large 120x150cm canvases

I’m so excited for you to see it!

Exhibition talk by Leo:

‘Please join Leo as he returns home to exhibit with us here in Linlithgow in this free gallery talk on Wednesday 17 June, 6:30pm – 7:30pm. Come along for an hour of informal friendly chat about Leo's life as an artist so far. Hear how art was there from the start, about his extremely creative upbringing in Linlithgow, attending both Low Port Primary and Linlithgow Academy. Hear about Leo's training at Edinburgh College of Art, then the past twenty years of life as a professional artist. Hear about the highs and the lows, about parenthood, about breakdown and about recovering brilliantly.

“It’s about my coming home, to myself, to my art. It’s about how my art has evolved and expanded through it all. Come hear, and see for yourself, what my biggest ever solo show is all about. I look forward to seeing you!”

Please book your place at Leo’s talk by emailing your name, contact email and phone number, as well as number of guests to: burgh.halls@westlothian.gov.uk or please call: 01506 282720.’
