Key Dates

2025
Recipient of Fife VACMA award funded by Creative Scotland and Fife Council & administered by Fife Contemporary and Fife Cultural Trust. To travel by train to four locations around Scotland and in each of these locations create a large plein-air mixed media artwork in-keeping with current studio practice.

2020
Recipient of Fife VACMA award funded by Creative Scotland and Fife Council & administered by Fife Contemporary and Fife Cultural Trust. To add printmaking to artistic output by becoming a member of Fife Dunfermline Printmakers Workshop, attending printmaking course and purchase of tools and materials.

2019 – 2020
Awarded Railway Heritage Trust grant to renovate disused building at Burntisland railway station to become my studio and exhibition space.

One of Edinburgh-based charity Art in Healthcare’s main Artist Facilitators, including running weekly art session as part of their Room for Art outreach programme.

2013 – 2020
Artist Adviser on Art in Healthcare's Art Selection Committee.

2013
Jeremy Mills Publisher published Leo’s second book, Landscapes & Birds of Scotland, an Artist's View. Publication coincided with RGI Kelly Gallery solo exhibition in Glasgow. The 120-page book showcases sketches, paintings and writings from explorations of Scotland, including ongoing Scotland by Rail work. Forewords by Stuart Housden RSPB, Michael Palin, John Busby artist.

2010
Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) Commonwealth Travel Scholarship: 6 weeks crossing Canada by rail, ferry, road. Sketches were published as first book, Sketches from Canada.

Bet Low Trust Award of £1,000 towards RGI Kelly Gallery exhibition.

2008
Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) Alexander Graham Munro Travel Award: travelled to Orkney, cementing desire to explore the islands of Scotland.

Scotland By Rail art-travel-nature project launched, supported by ScotRail.
