Leo du Feu

Leo du Feu

Leo was born in Edinburgh in 1984, grew up in nearby Linlithgow and studied Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. He is based now in his home town of Linlithgow.

Inspiration is drawn from the natural world, with as much time as possible spent exploring the Scottish and British countryside. Leo walks, cycles, sketches, and photographs, using the gathered material to complete paintings in his studio. The North-East coastline is a recurring theme due to family ties with Aberdeenshire.

Leo's largest commission to date is on permanent display at the UK Astronomy Technology Centre at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh where four, four-metre high dramatic depictions of land, sky and space tower above the viewer. He has completed numerous other commissions and his work is held in private collections across the country and overseas.

Leo's work is exhibited throughout Scotland and can regularly be seen at The Line Gallery on Linlithgow's High Street. Leo was supported in becoming a freelance artist by the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust and by Business Gateway.

Leo's latest project sees him working under the part sponsorship of First Scotrail and Highland Railway Heritage to produce paintings celebrating the landscapes accessible from the Aberdeen - Inverness railway line. 2008 marks the 150th Anniversary of completion of this rail link. Leo is grateful to Crerar Hotels and The Linlithgow Bookshop for their support of this project.
